Homecoming Trip

Sorry I haven't posted this sooner, it's been a crazy week at work.

Let me start by saying my Dad and I had a great trip down to campus for Homecoming. I will type some of the highlights, leaving details for a later note or to go with pictures. I haven't made the upgrade to digital, so the pictures still have to be developed. Also, I picked up a couple of items I figure both of you will be interested in and I will forward those to you in the snail mail... hopefully, I will get those off this weekend.

Jeff, I don't know when the last time you have been to campus. Rob, the last time I was back was with you 4 years ago. I assume that was your last time as well. Before that, the last I was on campus was for graduation. Ouch! Campus has changed almost as much in the past 4 years. Unbelievable. I know next year is going to be busy for Rob with the wedding and all... and I know Jeff is busy too... however, I think we should plan ahead and try to make it down to campus next year (or the year after that for sure).

Dad & I flew down to Dallas on Thursday, arriving about 4PM. We stayed in Dallas Thursday night. A lot of repeats, but they have always been enjoyable. We started off by going to the Dallas Hard Rock Cafe. Great as always, but got some disappointing news... they will be building a new HRC and closing the existing one. It's too far off the beaten path and they want more traffic. It's too bad since I think it's one of the coolest HRC's I've ever visited. Then, we went down to the West End for dinner and drinks.

Friday morning we went to the JFK Museum/Dealey Plaza. Got down to Waco about 1 PM. We went to the dedication of the new Bear Habitat at 2 PM. Really cool! I got a bunch of pictures of that and the bears too. They did a fantastic job. The bears won't want to leave. After checking into the hotel and grabbing dinner at Taco Cabana, we had a reception at the Business School. Took a tour of the new Financial Markets Center while there. BTW, check out the business school's website at http://www.baylor.edu/business/ and look at the 'News' at the bottom-right. Click on 'More Homecoming Pictures' I was surprised to see my mug on there! After that was the Bonfire/Pep Rally. For the first time, they had it over at the Ferrell Center (parking lot). I couldn't believe how many people were there. I can see why they have outgrown having it on Fountain Mall (which no longer has a fountain on it).

Saturday was the parade, followed by lunch at The Health Camp! Then, the game at 11:30 AM. If you guys didn't see or hear the game, the score was no indication of the game. The offense was flat the whole game and couldn't get anything going. BUT, the defense looked awesome. They kept TT in check for a full 3 quarters. 6-0 going into the 4th. But, because of lack of support from the offense, they ran out of gas in the 4th. If we could click on all cylinders, plus avoid shooting ourselves in the foot, I believe we could match up to anyone in the country. Seriously. We'll see what happens this week. I think we could match up against UT, but only to keep it close. We still have a little ways to go before we're THAT good. But, the stadium looks good and it felt great to be back. Dad bought the tickets, so it was my first time to sit on the pressbox side. It felt backwards.

After that, we went to the Mayborn Museum (the new Strecker museum). Very nice... it's huge! Dinner at the Elite Cafe, which has had a facelift. Then out for some drinks at the huge sports bar in that row of restaurants they built in what used to be the abandoned warehouse down by the Suspension Bridge. Sunday morning, we took some pictures of campus, highlighting the more recent changes/construction around campus. Also, went to the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame.

The pictures will stagger you. The new Sciences Building has to be the largest building on campus now. It is immense. New since 4 years ago: Sciences building, Mayborn Museum, Tennis Facility, TWO parking decks, Bear Habitat, North Village (which is basically 2 or 3 large residence or dorm buildings, was Truett Seminary done since then?, I may be leaving something out. They also added a shuttle bus network to take you around campus like a public transit system. Now, they are 'ONLY' working on remodeling the Bookstore and they broke ground for the new practice facility that will be attached to the Ferrell Center.

Overall, a great trip. Great to have been back. Great weather. We squeezed a lot in those 4 days. It will NOT be 4 years before I go back again. I will send you guys your 'care-packages' this weekend. Pictures to follow.
