Beginnings
Well the blog has started and now it is time for the rubber to meet the road.
What topics should we tackle first?
Maybe "Harriet Miers, Bush Crony or Hidden Gem??" (subtitled "Is Harry a Brownie?")
OR, "10 Reasons Bill Gohs should be the next Fed Chairman"
10. Has more Hair than Alan!
9. Has a better sense of humor than Alan!
8. Drinks more beer than Alan!
7. Wife is not a TV news personality.
6. Name is shorter.
5. Then maybe the chicks will dig him.
4. Already dated all the women in Peoria, time for a change of scenery.
3. Someone in Washington needs to give Illinois a good name!
I digress, plus running out of ideas!
Anyhow, I have to meeting down the street.
But I heard Harriet ran the Texas Bar, and George said she makes a really good martini!!

We were on vacation when the nomination came down (Fall Break Monday and Tuesday), so I've not looked into the candidate in any depth.
However, first glance does seem to suggest unqualified crony.
So when Bill replaces Greenspan, does that give the two of us 0% interest rates for a few years!? :)

Miers is definetely a crony pick. She is qualified, however not the best qualified by far. One good point someone made was that he knows her better than any other picks and there shouldn't be any surprises. Ex: Souter was supposed to be great move towards conservatism, but ended up being the opposite. So, I can't argue with that. However, it seems like Bush wants to avoid a fight with the left.
I was disappointed that he didn't go with the Baylor Bear Priscilla Owens. The Democrats would have looked pretty silly NOT approving her since she was JUST confirmed after a LONG filibuster. Plus, couldn't you see the old men on the Juducial Committee badgering her about women's rights?
By the way, I wouldn't get approved by the committee for Greenspan's job. Too many beer drinking stories floating around.

I would agree that she is a crony pick. And like you say Bill, she is qualified but not the most qualfied.
IMHO, you either need some experience on the bench, or be a bright and shining legal star. In her I see neither. Running the Texas Bar, shows she is politically connected, which is not something I would want in a judge, especially on the Supreme Court.
The irony is at the moment the left hasn't had to say a thing, all the opposition has come from the far right. They are disappointed and shocked. One comment I read was that are the ones on the far right that are complaining now, the ones that were last week saying that the President should be able to nominate whomever he wants?
Something I also read sort of disturbed me, it was a comment made by James Dobson who said on his radio show to trust him she would be a good judge, he knew her church and knew her pastor.
On Women's rights....Ted Kennedy knows more about Women's rights, he has surely dated, had affairs, and who know what with enought women to know. :)
I was really expecting Gonzalez to be the nominee. He would have been a fight, but I really expected he would give it a go.
On Miers, I have seen several pundits take a shot at her comment saying Bush was the most brilliant man she knows.
So how do you think she would vote on the Anna Nicole Smith case coming before the court this year??

Rob-
Good job on this blog thing. I'm glad I had the suggestion, even though I didn't know a thing about blogs. It was because you set up your ranting blog. Now, finally, we have an avenue to stay in touch in a way that puts a 21st century spin on an old friendship that has been separated by hundreds of miles. As I said before, I miss having the old conversations we all used to have.
This is perfect.
Now, there are no excuses about staying in touch. Check back here often.
